In The Countersexual Manifesto Paul B. Preciado
starts from the observation that in the existing
heterocentric system all bodies are classified into
male and female at birth.
The criteria for this classification are the vagina
and the penis as the „actual“ sexual organs. Thereby
sexuality is reduced to reproductive mechanisms.
However, since the 1960s at the latest
it should be clear that sex is mainly a pleasurable
activity. According to Preciado, sex is therefore
a (power) technology that results in heterosexual
society. Thus, in The Countersexual Manifesto,
Preciado questions the reproduction of the binary
gender system and attempts to deconstruct gender
norms by proposing three different practices.
His goal in doing so is to establish a countersexual
society. The first practice involves the eroticization
of the anus: the anus is a universal organ that is not
involved in reproduction and has no romantic past.
The second practice, following BDSM, establishes
a culture of negotiation in sexual relationships that
allows for constant clarification of roles and individual
boundaries. The third practice introduces the
dildo, but not as an imitation of the penis, but as a
collective term for everything that can cause and
serve sexual pleasure; such as an arm, an apple or
a book. The penis is thereby deprived of its sole
power. The practices that go along with this diversify
human sexual behavior and prevailing binary
role models of femininity and masculinity in a radical
way.
